Mary Kennesaw Master Bedroom
Upon entering Mary’s home in Kennesaw, I immediately felt a sense of positive energy. It’s a home filled with family, art and color. She’s a business woman, wife, mom, sister and daughter…managing every role with grace!
We are starting in the Master Bedroom.
She currently has an iron four poster bed, traditional bedside tables, traditional chest of drawers, and random lamps. At the foot of the bed, there is a storage bench, housing pillows.
Being a voracious reader, Mary enjoys reading beside a cozy fireplace. There is a “faux” fireplace on the right wall to accommodate those needs!
This is what I visualize.
Let’s bring the wall color from grey to the color of warm toast. Pulling inspiration from artwork in the dining room, bringing in shades of pumpkin, denim, and earthy taupe. Warm colors with a touch of earthiness.
We need to bring balance to the room, by rearranging the furniture.
Having said that, Mary likes the fact that her current bed is made of metal.
I am suggesting we follow that thought, however, the current bed overwhelms the room, distracting from the room’s interesting shape and lovely windows.
Let’s bring in a bed constructed of mixed materials, textiles and iron. This is the foundation of a cohesiveness in this space.
The windows in the room allow in gorgeous natural light. Where there are currently navy panels, placed between windows, I propose we create custom fabric panels between the windows, using leather to attach to the poles. The custom fabric would coordinate with the textiles in the bed, keeping with our continuity, leather adding to the earthy, mixed materials.
The reading nook has two linen chairs, with a rectangular book shelf between. Let’s replace the rectangular book shelf with a round book shelf/library table. Now, we are adding shape and well as function to the nook.
We will center the fireplace to the foot of the bed, creating balance in the room, painting it a deep, rich semi gloss charcoal. Flanking the fireplace will be two small chest of drawers. These will be painted and distressed in an indigo/chambray shade, with oval mirrors above.
Now we are bringing together balance, function, color and additional shape and form.
To the right of the door, there will be a tall chest painted and distressed with a pumpkin colored base and indigo/chambray top coat. Adding height, color and function.
The bedside tables will be painted to match the fireplace, in the deep rich charcoal tone adding to the foundation of the room.
Replacing the storage bench with a wicker chest, adds to the texture of the room as well as function.
Bedding will be a washable chambray denim, with colorful soft accent decorative pillows, and lighting will also be a combination of mixed materials, shapes and sizes.
A warm colorful runner rug would tie the entire space together.
